Angelina Jolie, originally Angelina
Jolie Voight (born June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California) is an American
actress, director and producer who is well-known for her sexual appeal as and
her charitable work. The role she played in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was a part
she won in the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent
most of her childhood in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11.
After two years at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, she enrolled
at Beverly Hills High School. Then, she pursued a degree in acting at New York
University. In addition to acting in theater productions, she also modeled and
appeared in music videos.Jolie's first big film part was in Hackers (1995)
which was the filming of which she had her first marriage with British actor
Jonny Lee Miller (married 1996; divorced 1999). The film failed to find an
audience, and neither did several subsequent films. In 1997, however Jolie
garnered much attention portraying the wife of Alabama's segregationist
governor in the television film George Wallace, and she later won the Golden
Globe Award for her performance. The following year she played a supermodel
struggling with addiction to drugs in the HBO film Gia the actress, which
earned her multiple honours, including the Golden Globe and a Screen Actors
Guild Award. In 1999, she starred in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack
and Billy Bob Thornton, and the following year , she was married to Billy Bob
Thornton (divorced 2003).After her Oscar-winning role in Girl, Interrupted,
Jolie starred in a series of action movies. In Gone in Sixty Seconds ((2000)),
she played the role of Nicole Cage's lover. Later, she took on a British
accent, learned combat sports and kickboxing for the role of the title in Lara
Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider : The Cradle of Life
(2004). She played the role of Alexander's mother in Oliver Stone's Alexander
(2004) and played alongside Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow in Sky Captain and The
World of Tomorrow (a sci-fi thriller set in 1930s New York City). Both films
disappointed in terms of box-office revenue, however Jolie's Mr. & Mrs.
Smith (2005) was a success. Jolie played a character pretending to be a normal
householdwife as she worked on the film. Brad Pitt became her co-star.
